10 foods I eat weekly and why

I believe food is more than just calories - it is information for the body. Food is translated by our genes into cellular instructions - these instructions are what control our health and disease patterns. Each meal is an opportunity to improve and upgrade your health.

If you want to perform optimally, fight disease and extend your lifespan - you need to be looking closely to the food you consume and choosing what you nourish your body with wisely.

Below are 10 foods I incorporate into my weekly diet. These foods provide so much nourishment for the body; containing beneficial nutrients and compounds, such as phytochemicals and antioxidants, helping to maintain vitality and overall wellbeing.

  • I love multiple sources of cacao; either my morning cacao elixir, cacao nibs, or dark chocolate (aim for at least 80% cacao)

  • Raw cacao is the highest known source of magnesium per gram on the planet

  • Increases blood flow to the brain which helps to strengthen awareness and focus

  • Rich in theobromine - a powerful antioxidant known to support cellular ageing and reduce the risk of heart disease

Coffee

  • I personally consume coffee black; either an iced long black or cold brew, or add it to my cacao elixir in the mornings

  • Contains caffeine, providing numerous benefits such as; enhanced alertness, improved athletic performance, elevated mood, and increased metabolism

  • Contains many nutrients and bioactive compounds such as polyphenols and chlorogenic acid, which inhibits DNA damage, is neuroprotective and reduces inflammation

Sweet potato

  • I personally love Japanese and Hawaiian varieties

  • I cook a batch of sweet potatoes and store them in the fridge - this activates resistance starch which helps feed your good gut bacteria)

  • Boosts serotonin levels (mood stabiliser), reduces inflammation and boosts your immune system

Legumes

  • Beans, lentils, edamame

  • Good source of protein and fiber, and they contain important vitamins and minerals like iron, B vitamins, and folate

  • Blueberries, blackberries, gojis are some of my favourites

  • Lower in sugar than other fruits

  • Good for brain health, improves memory

Avocado

  • Rich in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats and omega 3 fatty acids

  • Improves blood flow and oxygenation

Nuts/seeds

  • Hemp, chia, almonds, pistachios are some of my favourites; nut butters also

  • Good source of protein and healthy fats

  • Increases levels of good cholesterol (HDL), helps lower blood pressure and protects arteries

  • Gaba (gamma-aminobutyric acid) booster; facilitates communication along the brain

  • Pomegranate seeds; contains ellagitannins and ellagic acid - a good form of bacteria compound that lowers inflammation and protects the microfilm layer of the gut (preventing leaky gut)

Adaptogens (blog post coming soon)

  • Ashwagandha, ginseng, mushrooms, maca, turmeric root

  • Counteract the effects of stress in the body, which help to balance, restore and protect the body

All of these foods mentioned above, I try to buy organic or locally grown without glyphosate - as this is a known carcinogen.

Our bodies are electrical beings - we are made up of cells that reflect light and electricity, and our bodies operate through this form of communication. Therefore feeding your body with the proper amount of electrical charge helps optimise how our body operates. This is why it is so important to have awareness and intention around what we consume.

Overall, sticking to a wholefoods diet, meaning eating foods that are as close to their natural state as possible will help you feel your best!

With love,

B
